Ikaika Rodenhurst is a married father of three children, who resides in Hawaiian Acres with his wife Gabby. In his capacity as a civil engineer, he assisted the State Department of Transportation during its response to the 2018 Kīlauea eruption and Hurricane Lane events. He is active in the Puna community and serves on the worship team at SureFoundation Puna. Ikaika was also an assistant coach for the 2019 Hilo High School Division 1 State Football Championship Team.
A graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, Ikaika played college football and majored in engineering at Oregon State University before finishing his playing career and degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Since earning his degree in civil engineering in 2011, he has worked as a construction consultant for county and state highway projects.
Ikaika is familiar with the challenges that the Puna community faces daily and has chosen to run for Hawai‘i County Council to be a leader for positive change. He plans to listen to the needs of the community and bring his experience as an engineer to the Council and work collaboratively to provide creative solutions to improve everyday life in Council District 5.
