About Ikaika
Ikaika Rodenhurst is a Native Hawaiian leader and resident of Puna. Married and a proud father of three, he and his lovely wife Gabby reside in Hawaiian Acres (ʻŌlaʻa). Ikaika's role as a civil engineer proved invaluable during the State Department of Transportation's response to both the 2018 Kīlauea eruption and the challenges posed by Hurricane Lane. In 2020, Mayor Mitch Roth appointed him to head the Department of Public Works, a role that he passionately served in for nearly two years. Beyond his professional commitments, Ikaika actively contributes to our Puna community as a football coach and a member of Sure Foundation Puna.
A graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, Ikaika played Division I-A college football and majored in engineering at Oregon State University. He completed his collegiate journey, culminating both his athletic career and degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Since obtaining his degree in civil engineering in 2011, he has contributed his expertise as a construction consultant for county and state highway projects, leveraging his skills to enhance infrastructure and public works.
Ikaika intimately understands the challenges confronting our Puna community, motivating him to vie for a seat on the Hawaiʻi County Council, District 5. Grounded in integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment, he seeks to attentively heed the needs of our Puna community. Leveraging his engineering expertise and deep-seated aloha for Hawaiʻi and Puna, he aspires to collaborate with the Council offering innovative solutions that promise tangible improvements to the lives of District 5's residents.
